My #SBS win - how my contemporary knitwear got a boost from Theo Paphitis!

'Original contemporary knitwear for real women of all ages, shapes and sizes' chosen by Theo Paphitis

Small Business Sunday, shortened to the hashtag #SBS on Twitter, was created by Theo Paphitis in October 2010.

Businessman Theo Paphitis boosts knitwear designer

Theo is probably best known from his time as one of BBC Two's Dragons in Dragons' Den; he is also Chairman of Ryman Stationery, Boux Avenue lingerie and Robert Dyas, as well as joint owner of Red Letter Days.

On 1st May 2016 my business was selected by Theo Paphitis as one of his 6 weekly winners of #SBS. I'd been trying to achieve this for a long time!

Each week, Theo rewards small businesses that tweet him @TheoPaphitis and describe their businesses in a compelling tweet including the all-important hashtag #SBS.

My tweet was:

‘Original contemporary knitwear; for real women of all ages, shapes and sizes’

Small Business Sunday (#SBS) on Twitter

It's a major challenge to create an interesting and meaningful tweet within Twitter's 140 character limit (it has since increased). The challenge is all the greater as a number of characters are used up by the need to include '#SBS' and '@TheoPaphitis' in the tweet. I included a picture in mine, which uses up even more of the available characters!

Theo selects the best tweets and every Monday night he retweets his favourite lucky six. As he has over 450,000 followers, this is a massive boost to the chosen lucky businesses.

The benefits range from increased Twitter followers to positive media publicity and crucially for many, increased sales! Of course, none of this is guaranteed as it is largely down to perseverance and hard work. A smidgen of luck comes in handy - which has finally come my way!

There is now also an #SBS online shop where #SBS members can sell their products. There are many interesting products in Shop#SBS so it's well worth a visit.
