Garment care

How to look after your favourite knits and keep them looking like new

My knitwear is all washable - dry cleaning is not necessary

I recommend that you hand wash your luxury knitwear and that you turn your knitwear inside out to wash it

Key points

  • Turn inside out

  • Gentle hand wash

  • Dry flat away from direct sunlight

  • If needed, roll in a towel to remove excess water

  • Ease or pat into shape if needed

  • Do not bleach

  • Do not tumble dry

NB Dark colours & all hand-dyed & denim garments should be washed separately.

Caring for your knitwear - the details

  • Turning the item inside out helps to protect the fibres

  • To maintain the softness, quality and drape of the item carefully hand wash it in warm water (approximately 30 deg C) using a gentle non-biological product

  • Don't use harsh detergents or those containing bleaches and/or optical whiteners, as these damage the fibres and reduce the intensity and quality of colours

  • Do not bleach

  • Remove any brooches, laces etc before washing (you can replace these when the garment is dry)

  • Rinse well

  • To any remove excess water you can roll in a towel

  • Gently ease the item into shape and pat down the edges while damp if/where needed

  • Dry flat, away from direct sunlight

  • Do not tumble dry

Dark colours & all hand-dyed & denim garments should be washed separately.

Denim yarns are designed to fade over time with washing and wearing. This happens because the dyes are less fixed than other dyes, and the dyes tend to sit on the surface of the yarn. When denim items are new, some of the colour may transfer onto light coloured fabrics in wear or when they are wet. If you wash the garment before you wear it for the first time, this will help to reduce transfer
